Is Berliner Philharmoniker at the Waldbühne worth it?

Before you go

What should I know before an evening in Berlin?

If it rains

The Waldbühne has no roof over the audience, only the stage is covered. The venue does not promise that every concert goes ahead whatever the weather. It announces changes or a cancellation on its website and social media. Long umbrellas are banned, so bring a rain poncho or a small folding umbrella.

„Should there be any changes to the schedule or even a cancellation of the event, we will inform our visitors via our website“

Doors

Doors open at 18:00, more than two hours before the concert. You enter through Gate 1, the main entrance or Gate 5, and bag checks take time, so come early. You reach the tiers and the floor area only from the top, down flights of steps.

Getting there

From the UK you fly to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), south of the city. To reach the Waldbühne, take the S3 or S9 suburban train to Pichelsberg and walk about 10 minutes. From Olympiastadion underground station on the U2 line, the walk takes about 20 minutes.

Getting home afterwards

After the concert a huge crowd walks to Pichelsberg station at the same time, so be patient. Taxis cannot drive up to the entrance and usually wait at the end of Passenheimer Straße, about 400 metres from the main gate.

Parking

Parking near the Waldbühne is limited. The paid car park P07 at Passenheimer Straße 32 is usually open from 3.5 hours before the start. It cannot be reserved, so the venue recommends public transport.

What to wear

There is no dress code and most people dress casually. It gets cool quickly in the woods after sunset, so bring a jumper and a seat cushion.

Children

Children up to 3 do not need their own ticket for this concert and sit on your lap. The venue's general FAQ says every visitor needs a ticket, though, so check with the organiser, Concert Concept, if you are unsure.

What you can bring

For this concert the organiser allows you a picnic for yourself in a bag up to 40 by 40 by 35 centimetres, with the food packed in see-through wrapping. You may also bring one drink up to 0.5 litres in a carton or plastic bottle, plastic cutlery, a blanket and a folding umbrella. Glass, cans and long umbrellas are banned, and there are no chairs on the floor area in front of the stage, so you sit on the ground. The same page also repeats the venue's general no-food rule further up, so check the latest version before you go.
