Is Staatsoper für alle (State Opera for All) worth it?

Before you go

What should I know before an evening in Berlin?

If it rains

The Staatsoper says nothing about what happens if it rains. In 2024 the event went ahead in rainy weather, but only a few people came. Bring a rain jacket to be safe.

There is no ticketed entry, because the square is open to everyone. The best spots go quickly, so arrive well before the start.

Getting there

From the UK you fly to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), south of the city, and take the train into the centre. For Bebelplatz, take the U5 or U6 underground to Unter den Linden or the U5 to Museumsinsel. Buses 100 and 300 stop at Staatsoper, right by the square.

Getting home afterwards

When it ends you are right in the middle of Berlin. Unter den Linden underground station is a few steps away.

Parking

Street parking around Bebelplatz is very limited. There is an underground car park, Q-Park Unter den Linden/Staatsoper, with its entrance at Bebelplatz 2, but public transport is much easier.

What to wear

Wear whatever is comfortable for an afternoon or evening outdoors, as there is no dress code. Take a jacket for later in the evening.

Children

Children come free, because admission is free for everyone. In 2026 there was also a Sunday-morning concert by the Children's Opera Orchestra, but nothing similar has been announced for 2027 yet.

What you can bring

Berlin's tourist board, visitBerlin, invites you to bring a blanket and a few snacks. The Staatsoper does not say whether folding chairs are allowed.
