Santa Fe Opera seating plan 2027. Which seat suits you?
Where are the best seats at the Santa Fe Opera? The best seats are in the centre of the main floor in Zones 2 or 4, or in the first row of the mezzanine, the Loge. From there you see the stage clearly and have enough distance to take in the sky and landscape. The Front Orchestra puts you closest to the singers but costs up to 290 dollars.

Last checked: 2 November 2026, against the organiser's own information.
Location: Orchestra Premium is not a separate block. It means the two seats right next to the centre aisle plus the whole of rows A, P and S on the main floor.
Rows: A, P, S sowie Gangplätze
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: You sit in the very first row or right on the aisle with a clear view of the stage.
2027 price: $246 – $323
Tip: Row A sits right at the orchestra pit. If you prefer a little distance and a fuller picture, row P or S is the better pick.
Location: This is the centre block at the front of the main floor, right in front of the stage.
Rows: A bis L (die Reihe I gibt es nicht)
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: You are close to the singers and can see faces and costumes in detail. A visitor who sat five rows back in the centre in 2019 called them great seats.
2027 price: $216 – $290
Tip: This is as close as it gets. For the full sunset picture behind the stage, seats further back often show more.
Location: Zone 2 is the front part of the rear main floor in the centre, just behind the cross aisle, plus the inner edges of the side blocks. Zone 2 Aisle means the two seats right next to the aisle.
Rows: ab P (hinteres Parkett)
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: You sit centrally at a comfortable distance and take in the whole stage at once.
2027 price: $181 – $280
Tip: Many people see this centre area as the best mix of closeness, sound and overview. That is our assessment, not a statement by the opera.
Location: Zone 1 covers the two angled side blocks at the front of the main floor, left and right of the Front Orchestra, plus the front rows of the rear side blocks. Zone 1 Row S is row S there, priced separately.
Rows: vorne A bis M, hinten die ersten Reihen ab P
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: You are close, but you look at the stage from an angle. One visitor reports that seats far to the side can hide part of the stage.
2027 price: $123 – $205
Tip: Within Zone 1, pick seats towards the middle. The outermost seats sit next to the open sides of the theatre and are the first to catch wind-blown rain.
Location: Zone 3 is in the rear side blocks of the main floor behind Zone 1. Zone 4 is in the centre behind Zone 2 and along the inner edges of the side blocks. Zone 4 Aisle means the two seats on the aisle.
Rows: hinteres Parkett
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: From row W back the mezzanine hangs over you, so you sit sheltered beneath the upper level.
2027 price: $96 – $180
Tip: Zone 4 in the centre is a good compromise if you want a central seat for less money.
Location: Zone 5 is far back in the side blocks of the main floor. Zone 6 is the last rows of the main floor, in the centre and at the sides.
Rows: hinterste Reihen bis GG, unter dem Balkon
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: You sit far back under the mezzanine. The translation screen is still right in front of you.
2027 price: $47 – $96
Tip: Zone 6 in the centre is among the cheapest seats and has step-free wheelchair spaces.
Location: Standing room is at the very back of the main floor behind the last row. Each standing place is an assigned spot at a rail.
Rows: hinter Reihe GG
Seat: No seat, but an assigned standing place with its own translation screen.
View: According to the opera, standing room gives you an unobstructed view of the stage.
2027 price: $15
Tip: At 15 dollars this is the cheapest way into an opera. Operas often run around three hours, so it suits people who are happy to stand. The price is on the website without a year and is not listed in the 2027 price sheet.
Location: Here the Loge is not a private box but the first row of the mezzanine, the upper level. The theatre has no boxes.
Rows: erste Reihe der Mezzanine
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: Nobody sits in front of you, and you look down over the whole main floor to the stage.
2027 price: $165 – $229
Tip: You can reach the Loge without steps. It is the priciest row upstairs and often the nicest for the full picture of stage, sky and landscape.
Location: Zone 7 is in the centre of the mezzanine behind the Loge and along the inner edges of the side sections. Zone 8 is at the front of the mezzanine side sections.
Rows: Mezzanine, Reihen MA bis MH laut Detailplan
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: From Zone 7 you look down at the stage from the centre. From Zone 8 you look across from the side.
2027 price: $71 – $206
Tip: Zone 7 is the best choice upstairs after the Loge. Zone 8 costs much less but sits closer to the open sides.
Location: Zone 9 is the back rows of the mezzanine centre. Zone 10 is the rear outer corners of the mezzanine on both sides.
Rows: hinterste Reihen der Mezzanine
Seat: Fixed theatre seat with a back and a small translation screen in front of you.
View: You are as far from the stage as it gets. The photo taken from section 10 on Wikimedia Commons shows how much you can still see.
2027 price: $39 – $142
Tip: Zone 10 is the cheapest seat at 39 to 51 dollars. There are no restrooms on the top level of the mezzanine, so go beforehand. The elevator on the right side of the house does not reach the top level, so use the one on the left.
The outermost seats of the side blocks: One visitor reports that seats far to the side can hide part of the stage. They also sit by the open sides, where rain can blow in on windy nights.
The audience faces west towards the Jemez Mountains. When a production does without a back wall, you see the sky and the mountains through the open stage. On 2 July 2027 the sun sets at 8:24 pm, just before the 8:30 pm curtain. On 28 August it sets at 7:37 pm, so at the 8 pm start you mostly catch the afterglow.
The theatre is wheelchair-accessible and an elevator serves most levels. Wheelchair spaces are at the front of the main floor in the Front Orchestra and Zone 1, at the back centre in Zone 6, in the standing room, and upstairs in Zones 9 and 10. The first mezzanine row, the Loge, and the last row of Zones 9 and 10 are also step-free. The elevator on house right does not reach the top level. Hearing devices plus large-print and Braille synopses are free from the box office. Let the box office know your needs in advance on +1 505 986 5900.
Frequently asked questions about Santa Fe Opera
Where are the best seats at the Santa Fe Opera?
The best seats are in the centre of the main floor in Zones 2 or 4, or in the first row of the mezzanine, the Loge. From there you see the stage clearly and have enough distance to take in the sky and landscape. The Front Orchestra puts you closest to the singers but costs up to 290 dollars.
Do you get wet at the Santa Fe Opera when it rains?
Usually not, because a roof covers every seat. The sides are open, though, so in strong wind rain can reach the outer side seats. You are most likely to stay dry in the centre and under the mezzanine from row W back.
Is standing room at the Santa Fe Opera worth it?
Yes, if you are comfortable on your feet, because 15 dollars buys you a clear view and your own translation screen. Standing room is at the very back of the main floor. Bear in mind that an opera often lasts around three hours.
How warmly should I dress for the Santa Fe Opera?
Bring a jacket and ideally a blanket, even after a hot day. The opera sits at about 2,100 metres, and summer nights cool to around 12 to 13 degrees Celsius. Late in the evening a breeze often blows through the open sides.
Can I pick an exact seat when I buy?
No, for 2027 you choose a zone first and the opera assigns the exact seats later. Single tickets are seated in December 2026 in order of purchase date and donation level, later orders from January 2027. Buying early improves your chances of good seats within your zone.
