Is Klassik am Dom Linz worth it?

Klassik am Dom is mostly a series for pop, jazz and musical stars, and in 2027 classical music features on just one evening. If you love opera and classical singing, aim for 16 July 2027 with Elīna Garanča, who sang the very first concert of the series back in 2011. The Gothic cathedral makes a striking backdrop, but the Garanča evening is also the most expensive one.

Before you go

What should I know before an evening in Linz?

If it rains

The concerts go ahead in any weather, and there is no roof over the seats. So bring a rain jacket. Please do not open an umbrella, because it blocks the view of the people behind you. The organisers do not hand out plastic rain ponchos.

Getting there

Linz lies on the Danube between Vienna and Salzburg. The easiest way from the UK is to fly to Vienna or Salzburg and take the train to Linz Hauptbahnhof, the main station. From the station, tram 1, 2 or 3 takes you to the Mozartkreuzung stop. Buses 45 and 46 stop at Mariendom, right next to the square. The organisers advise against coming by car, because streets around the square are closed for the concerts.

Getting home afterwards

The square is right in the city centre of Linz. After the concert you walk to the tram at Mozartkreuzung or to the bus at Mariendom. If your hotel is in the centre, you can simply walk back.

Parking

The organisers recommend not coming by car, because streets around the square are closed. There is bike parking in Baumbachstraße in front of the cathedral.

What to wear

The organisers do not set a dress code. You sit in the open air, so bring a jacket, and rainwear if the weather looks uncertain.

What you can bring

Bring weatherproof clothing, but do not plan to open an umbrella. There is a drinking fountain on the square where the organisers serve free tap water. The drinks stands also hand out free ear protection.
