Is Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn worth it?

The Summer Night Concert is the easiest way to hear one of the world's most famous orchestras outdoors for free. You will be standing among tens of thousands of people, and unless you arrive early you will often only see the stage from far away. If you prefer it calmer, stay further back and enjoy the music with a view of the palace and the Gloriette.

So far the park has opened in the afternoon. In 2026, according to the Vienna news site vienna.at, people could get in from about 5 pm through the Hietzing Gate and the Meidling Gate. If too many people come, the park can be closed for safety reasons, so arrive early for a good spot. The times for 2027 have not been published yet.

Getting there

Schönbrunn Palace is in the west of Vienna. From the UK, fly to Vienna and take the train or airport bus into the city. Then take underground line U4 to Hietzing or Schönbrunn station. From Hietzing it is a short walk to the Hietzing Gate, which was the entrance in 2026. The organisers recommended public transport in 2026.

Getting home afterwards

After the concert tens of thousands of people leave the park at once. Expect the U4 and the trams to be very full and allow extra time. No end time has been published for 2027.

Parking

The organisers do not mention any parking for the concert. In 2026 they recommended coming by public transport.

What to wear

The organisers mention no dress code, and you stand on gravel and grass. Comfortable shoes and something warm for later are a good idea, as the concert ends after sunset.

Children

Children need no ticket, like everyone else. However, prams and pushchairs were not allowed on the grounds in 2026. With so many people around, agree on a meeting point with small children.

What you can bring

In 2026 prams, folding chairs, blankets, umbrellas, e-scooters, bicycles and animals were not allowed on the grounds. The rules for 2027 have not been published yet.
