Is Klassik Open Air Nuremberg worth it?

At Klassik Open Air around 80,000 people sit on the lawn for free on a single evening, and it feels like a giant picnic with an orchestra. To sit near the stage you need to arrive very early. Further back you still hear well through speaker towers and have more room for your blanket.

Before you go

What should I know before an evening in Nuremberg?

If it rains

In ordinary rain the concert usually carries on, as long as the musicians on stage stay dry. If a thunderstorm comes, an announcement warns you, and you should shelter in cars, buses, trams or buildings, never under trees. In 2026 the first evening concert paused twice for a few minutes because of rain.

„Solange es nur regnet und die Musiker*innen auf der Bühne nicht nass werden, kann in der Regel das Konzert weitergeführt werden.“

The grounds are an open park without ticket checks at the gate. The police do carry out occasional bag checks, and you are not allowed to reserve spots for others.

Getting there

From the UK the simplest route is to fly to Munich or Frankfurt and take a fast ICE train to Nuremberg main station. To reach Luitpoldhain, take the S2 or S3 suburban train or tram 7 or 10 to Dutzendteich.

Getting home afterwards

After the concert extra trams run from the Doku-Zentrum stop straight to Plärrer and the main station. Extra buses run from Bayernstraße to Frankenstraße underground station, and there is a taxi rank on Bayernstraße by the Volksfestplatz from 22:30 to 23:45.

Parking

There is paid parking on Große Straße and the Volksfestplatz, with only a few spaces at the Meistersingerhalle. Electronic signs guide you there, and you can leave bikes free of charge at the marked bike parks.

What to wear

Wear whatever is comfortable for a long summer evening on the grass, as there is no dress code. Bring sun protection and, if the weather looks changeable, rain gear.

Children

Children are welcome and entry is free for everyone. In 2026 there was a separate family concert in the morning, but it has not been announced for 2027 yet.

What you can bring

Many people bring a picnic and a blanket, and sparklers up to 30 centimetres are explicitly allowed. Barbecues, open fire, torches, sky lanterns, dogs other than assistance dogs, and gazebos, fences or umbrellas used to mark off space are banned. Take down your sunshade when the concert starts so people behind you can see the stage.
