Calendar 2027

When does Grafenegg Festival at the Wolkenturm play in 2027? The times for this evening are shown at the top.

So far only one evening is fixed for summer 2027. It is the Summer Night Gala on Thursday 17 June 2027 at 8.15 pm, where the Tonkünstler Orchestra plays orchestral favourites, arias and duets. Grafenegg presents the rest of its 2027 summer programme on 7 November 2026. For comparison, in 2026 the Summer Sounds series ran on Saturday evenings from 27 June to 8 August 2026, and the Grafenegg Festival itself from 14 August to 6 September 2026.

Is Grafenegg Festival at the Wolkenturm worth it?

The Wolkenturm is ideal if you want orchestral music with excellent sound in a castle park, without sitting in a huge crowd. If you want a guaranteed indoor seat in the rain, buy categories 1 to 6. Families and anyone on a budget do well on the lawn with a blanket and a picnic.

Before you go

What should I know before an evening in Grafenegg?

If it rains

Grafenegg tries to play at the Wolkenturm even when the weather is uncertain. The decision is made about three hours before the concert and announced on a phone line (+43 2735 5500), on the website and by text message if you gave your mobile number when booking. If the concert moves indoors, tickets in categories 1 to 6 get a fixed seat in the Auditorium, the concert hall on the grounds. Categories 7 and 8 then give access to a video screening in the smaller Rudolf Buchbinder Hall, or a refund if the concert was not played at least to the halfway point or the interval. Umbrellas are banned at the Wolkenturm, and free ponchos are handed out in the rain. The rules say nothing about lawn tickets in the rain.

„Karten in den Kategorien 1 – 6 für das Abendkonzert haben einen automatisch zugewiesenen Sitzplatz im Auditorium auf der Karte.“

Doors

Doors open half an hour before the concert, possibly later in uncertain weather. On Wolkenturm concert days the castle park is open only to ticket holders from three hours before the start.

Getting there

Grafenegg is in Lower Austria, about an hour's drive north-west of Vienna, near the Danube town of Krems. From the UK, fly to Vienna. The easiest way out is the concert bus from the Musikverein in central Vienna, which leaves at 6.30 pm on gala night and costs 19 euros return. Hourly trains also run from Vienna's Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof to Wagram-Grafenegg, which is 2.6 km (about 30 minutes' walk) from the venue.

Getting home afterwards

The gala is scheduled to run from 8.15 to 10.15 pm. The concert bus to Vienna leaves 15 minutes after the end, but may be cancelled if too few people book. If you take the train back, you need a taxi or a walk of about 30 minutes to Wagram-Grafenegg station.

Parking

There is a large visitor car park about five minutes' walk from the Wolkenturm, with 17 charging points for electric cars.

What to wear

Come as you feel comfortable, from evening wear to jeans. In summer many men wear a light suit without a tie and many women a summer dress with a warm layer for later. The park paths are unpaved, so sensible shoes help.

Children

Children may attend from their third birthday and then need a half-price ticket. Grafenegg recommends the lawn for families, because children under 12 get in free there.

What you can bring

You may bring bags, bottles up to 0.5 litres, seat cushions and blankets. On the lawn you may unpack your own food and drink. Glass bottles, glasses, chairs, umbrellas, suitcases and bulky items are banned.
